Blizzard Kicks Off 2013 Coat-A-Kid Drive ~
Coats Now Being Accepted at All Don' Claytons

Blizzard, the Polar Bear brought a lot of excitement to this year's Coat-A-Kid kick-off at Highland Elementary on Oct. 10. The Evansville IceMen mascot handed out coats and gave hugs before students enjoyed the traditional throwing of their coats into the air.

For the sixteenth year, Don's Claytons owner Steve Schmitt headed up the kick off of the coat drive, which this year will far exceed 135,000 coats that have been cleaned and distributed to area kids since 1986.

Last year's campaign collected a record number of coats, but Schmitt says they've been running out of smaller coats before needs are met. This year he is asking for more coats in sizes Infant to 16 Youth.

Don's Claytons is accepting new and gently used coats at all of its locations in Evansville and Newburgh now through December 31.

The coats will be distributed in Evansville by The Salvation Army and Evansville Christian Life Center. The Salvation Army will also distribute coats in Boonville at Hope Central, located at 304 N 2nd Street. For more information call Hope Center at 812-897-4910.

Thanks to Community
Schmitt says the community has always been a great supporter of the Coat-A-Kid drive and he appreciates people's continued generosity. "We have great customers, great people who work at our company, and a really giving community," he remarks. "That makes the work very gratifying."

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- Don's Claytons Fine Drycleaning , the Salvation Army and Evansville Christian Life Center report the tri-state donated a record 9,000 coats to this year's annual Coat-A-Kid drive – and they're thanking the community for their generous giving.

"The need in this area was greater than we've seen before, but there were enough coats this year to fill every request," Don's Claytons owner Steve Schmitt says. "Last year we ran out of coats before we ran out of kids who needed them. So we were happy to have enough this year – and want to thank everybody who donated."

Don's Claytons Adopts
New Halogen-Free Solvent

For many years, Don's Claytons has made the environment a top priority when it comes to our drycleaning processes.

Now we have taken our commitment a step further by adopting the use of K4, a halogen-free, organic solvent with excellent cleaning performance and a purity level of more than 99 percent. K4 does not pose a risk to air, water, human beings or soil, and it has been dermatologically tested for skin friendliness.

K4 absorbs and dissolves stains from fats, greases and oils as well as water soluble soils. The new solvent leaves cleaned fabrics with a pleasant, smooth feel and noticeably minimizes fiber abrasion and creasing during the cleaning process. ln addition, K4 brightens colors and protects against graying of fabrics. Plus, K4 has another benefit other solvents don't have: It is ODOR FREE.

Don's Claytons is the only drycleaner in this area using K4, and the only drycleaner to have been recognized for environmentaIly-friendly processes. ln 2005 Don's Claytons earned the Governor's Award from the lndiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) for our continuing efforts to reduce the drycleaning industry's impact on the environment.

For a number of years we have made significant investments in new equipment and processes that support bio-friendly drycleaning practices, including the use of biodegradable garment bags.

Don's Claytons Adopts Biodegradable Packaging
Don's Claytons DCI Fine Drycleaning has adopted Ecomax™ biodegradable garment bags as another step in its continuing efforts to reduce the drycleaning industry's impact on the environment.

Ecomax™ bags are stable for nine months if kept in the dark but begin to degrade six hours after first exposure to light. The bags have been shown to completely degrade within fifteen months after first exposure to light when kept in the presence of oxygen.

"Our customers are environmentally conscious, and these bags will serve well in protecting freshly cleaned fabrics – yet they won't accumulate in landfills over the long-term," states Steve Schmitt, president of Don's Claytons. "We're very happy to be able to implement the new packaging technology."

Don's Claytons DCI™ Drycleaning Receives
Governor's Award from IDEM

Don's Claytons DCI Drycleaning has earned the 2005 Governor's Award from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) for the company's steps toward making drycleaning less hazardous to the environment. Don's Claytons converted its drycleaning operations to a non-hazardous, environmentally friendly solvent that does not emit chemicals into the environment or leave chemical residue on drycleaned clothing. In order to put the new technology into practice, Don's Claytons made a large investment in new equipment and continues to meet an ongoing investment in bio-friendly drycleaning solvent. The company has absorbed this cost without raising prices.
