Where can I donate coats?

Each Donโ€™s location will have their usual drop boxes. Donations will stretch through Dec. 31.

Every coat is cleaned at Donโ€™s for free and then delivered to either the Salvation Army or the Christian Life Center. Even if you miss the Dec. 31 deadline, the Christian Life Center is always taking donations, Grunow said. The headquarters at 509 S. Kentucky Ave. is open two days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

You can also drop off at the Salvation Army at 1040 N. Fulton Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

How do I get a coat?

The Salvation Armyโ€™s annual giveaway is Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Itโ€™s open to Vanderburgh and Warrick County families and will feature both adult and childrenโ€™s coats.

Residents can also snag coats at the Christian Life Center. The limit is one per person per household, once a year.

What kind of coats can I donate?

The coats can be new or gently used. If they require cleaning from Donโ€™s, itโ€™s too late to put them in a drop box and have them ready for the Salvation Armyโ€™s Saturday coat drive, the organization posted on Facebook earlier this week.

What are the numbers behind the drive?

Bryan Schmitt, president of Don’s, told the Courier & Press during a previous drive that the effort usually collects around 3,000 coats a year.

Even though the weather has remained stubbornly warm, Grunow said sheโ€™s already fielded several families searching for outerwear.

โ€œWeโ€™re on average seeing about 100 to 125 households a week currently. And when the weather changes, the need increases tremendously,โ€ she said. โ€œWeโ€™ve been having quite a few families coming through looking for coats already, and unfortunately we just have sweatshirts at this point.โ€
