EVANSVILLE, Ind.- Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry Fine Drycleaning , the Salvation Army and Evansville Christian Life Center report the tri-state donated a record 9,000 coats to this year’s annual Coat-A-Kid drive – and they’re thanking the community for their generous giving.

“The need in this area was greater than we’ve seen before, but there were enough coats this year to fill every request,” Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry owner Steve Schmitt says. “Last year we ran out of coats before we ran out of kids who needed them. So we were happy to have enough this year – and want to thank everybody who donated.”

Since the Coat-A-Kid program began in 1986, Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry has cleaned almost 140,000 coats — all given by the community — and worked with the Salvation Army and Evansville Christian Life Center to distribute them to area infants, children and teens.

This year the Evansville IceMen helped kick off the Coat-A-Kid campaign at Dexter Elementary School. The IceMen also a gave a free hockey game ticket for every coat dropped off at the IceMen’s “Coat-A-Kid” night.
