Blizzard Kicks Off 2013 Coat-A-Kid Drive
Coats Now Being Accepted at All Donโ Don’s
Blizzard, the Polar Bear brought a lot of excitement to this yearโs Coat-A-Kid kick-off at Highland Elementary on Oct. 10. The Evansville IceMen mascot handed out coats and gave hugs before students enjoyed the traditional throwing of their coats into the air.
For the sixteenth year, Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry owner Steve Schmitt headed up the kick off of the coat drive, which this year will far exceed 135,000 coats that have been cleaned and distributed to area kids since 1986.
Last yearโs campaign collected a record number of coats, but Schmitt says theyโve been running out of smaller coats before needs are met. This year he is asking for more coats in sizes Infant to 16 Youth.
Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry is accepting new and gently used coats at all of its locations in Evansville and Newburgh now through December 31.
The coats will be distributed in Evansville by The Salvation Army and Evansville Christian Life Center. The Salvation Army will also distribute coats in Boonville at Hope Central, located at 304 N 2nd Street. For more information call Hope Center at 812-897-4910.
Thanks to Evansville Newburgh Community
Schmitt says the community has always been a great supporter of the Coat-A-Kid drive and he appreciates peopleโs continued generosity. โWe have great customers, great people who work at our company, and a really giving community,โ he remarks. โThat makes the work very gratifying.โ
