Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry Adopts Biodegradable Packaging
Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry DCI Fine Drycleaning has adopted biodegradable garment bags as another step in its continuing efforts to reduce the drycleaning industryโs impact on the environment.
Biodegradable bags are stable for nine months if kept in the dark but begin to degrade six hours after first exposure to light. The bags have been shown to completely degrade within fifteen months after first exposure to light when kept in the presence of oxygen.
โOur customers are environmentally conscious, and these bags will serve well in protecting freshly cleaned fabrics โ yet they wonโt accumulate in landfills over the long-term,โ states Steve Schmitt, president of Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry. โWeโre very happy to be able to implement the new packaging technology.โ
Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry DCIโข Drycleaning Receives Governorโs Award from IDEM
Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry DCI Drycleaning has earned the 2005 Governorโs Award from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) for the companyโs steps toward making drycleaning less hazardous to the environment. Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry converted its drycleaning operations to a non-hazardous, environmentally friendly solvent that does not emit chemicals into the environment or leave chemical residue on drycleaned clothing. In order to put the new technology into practice, Don’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry made a large investment in new equipment and continues to meet an ongoing investment in bio-friendly drycleaning solvent. The company has absorbed this cost without raising prices.
